What should my baby wear in the swimming pool?
The guidelines are that babies under 12 lbs or 3 months should swim in water heated to 32°C, and for babies weighing more than 12lbs/3 months to be in water heated to 30°C - 32°C. Some babies may not need to wear a wetsuit in water heated to this temperature however they should wear a waterproof nappy such as the nappicova that will fit babies from birth. If your baby feels the cold, or the air temperature is slightly cooler than you may prefer your baby or toddler to wear a wetsuit such as the Baby Warma. Your baby would feel warmer in a wetsuit for beach or holiday wear. A wetsuit can also provide additional support for parents anxious about holding a wet, slippery baby. You can purchase a matching wetsuit and nappicova set in either blue on pink.

Should my baby wear a nappicova with a disposable swimmers nappy?
Yes, we would highly recommend it. Most swim schools and swimming centres will insist on a ‘double nappy’ system. This helps to contain any leakage in the disposable nappy. Any contamination into the pool will mean that centres have to close down the swimming pool in order that the pool can be cleaned before use again. Ask your swimming centre or swim school for details about their nappy policy.

Is it recommended that my baby wears a normal disposable nappy under the nappicova or swim nappy?
Your baby should wear a specially designed swimming disposable nappy that can be purchased from supermarkets, Boots or Mothercare. This also means that any soilage is contained within the disposable nappy thus making the nappicova/swim nappy easier to clean, and avoiding any potential leakage into the swimming pool. If your baby is potty trained then there is no need to wear a disposable nappy and they can wear the adjustable swim nappy comfortably.

Do I need to buy a wetsuit with the nappicova or swim nappy?
This depends on the temperature of the water and how small your baby is. A wetsuit can also provide additional support for parents anxious about holding a wet, slippery baby. Ask your swim school or swimming centre about their pool water and air temperature. It is important that the wetsuit has a snug fit.

Do the wetsuits have floats built into them?
No, they are designed for additional warmth and comfort. They will not make children float. Please refer to the Float Suits or our Buoyancy Aid Jackets as an aid to buoyancy.

How should I wash lycra/neoprene swimwear?
Lycra is a delicate material. To obtain the most life out of lycra and neoprene when swimming in chlorinated pools, rinse chlorinated swimwear in cold water immediately after use and then follow the manufacturer's washing instructions.
